It’s all about timing. It sometimes saves your life.
Little Diva and I were running errands today. She was in a pretty good mood, so I was trying to get as much stuff done as I could. Our last stop of the day was the video store. I was going to just pop in and return a video and maybe get a new one for her to watch during her (read: my) quiet time.
So, we pull up to the store. And she throws one heck of a fit. I mean, she got downright hysterical about not getting out of her car seat. She was screaming, “No!” to me and I was standing there at first trying to “reason” with her. (Sidenote: There is no reasoning with a 2 yr old.) Slowly I am getting irritated. Well, after a couple of minutes of this, I crawl into the car to get her out. It was then that I heard the most tremendous, god awful crash of glass shattering.
I get back out of the car and immediately look to the parking lot behind me and didn’t see anything. Then I look at the video store.
A car had driven through the front window. The area right beside the new releases. The area Little Diva and I would have been standing if she had gotten out of the car when we first pulled up. I just stood there a minute trying to comprehend what just happened. I looked over at Little Diva. She was now totally calm and climbing out of her seat.
I’m still not sure what happened, but I have never been more thankful for a 2 year old’s temper tantrum before. It just might have saved her (or our) lives. Call it what you want…coincidence, fate, a tired 2 yr old, but I am sure there was some divine intervention causing the timing to be just so that we missed getting hit.
I shudder to think of what could’ve happened.
(Oh, and fyi, the woman driving the car and the kid in the backseat were both fine. No injuries at all. Just naturally a bit freaked out. )
