Wii gets fit

Wii gets fit

Ahhh, summertime. That time when you should allow your kids to rest, yet enrich their minds. OR if you live with me, a time to stay up late, eat junk food and play games when we are not out in the sun and fun. (Seeing as there has been very little sun, we are doing a lot more inside “fun” here.) And what is the power game of choice? Wii! (And, no, I do not work for them, am not being paid by them and am gaining nothing by telling you how much I enjoy the Wii we have. Just in case someone decides they want to get all up in my grill about it. I’m just saying, I like it. Mikey likey!)

Here is the Queen of Our Wii holding court.

Wii Queen holds court

I have to admit, there are times I kick the kids off to play myself. I have fun with the Wii Sports and the Wii Play. In fact, here are some pictures of the whole family playing at the beach when it was either raining or everyone was too sunburned to go back out into the blazing Florida sun. Do you Wii? What is your favorite game?

I am just going to link to the WiiFit in action. I TRIED to embed it, but it keeps screwing up my template. Hello? WordPress? Not making me happy. Anyway, here is the link: Wii Fit at E3.

I think I am in love with a new game coming out soon. I learned about it from E3 and found this video of it from the conference at Gametrailers. I am so going to get my hands on this one: Wii Fit. Check out that yoga, baby. Now that will be worth all of the YouTube payback videos that my sons post of me. Because trust me when I say both of my boys will love getting even that way. Take a look for yourself and tell me what you think. I think it is going to be a lot of Fit Fun!

Run! Run for your life!

Run! Run for your life!

I have a confession to make.

Although I pride myself on not being a follower, I am competitive.  Not a smack talking, in your face competitive person.  Not so much. (That whole stab you in the back to try to get ahead thing tends to get old when you have amassed the collection of knives that I have pulled free, so I really prefer not to go that route.) More like a “If she can do that, I can do that” type of fun competition.  I prefer to call it inspirationally competitive.  Why?  Because I will go right up to the person and tell them they are inspiring me to do what they are doing and then ask them to tell me more.  I cannot even tell you the number of amazing women I have met by just telling them they inspire me.  By just asking them how they do what they do.  Oh sure, you will run into people who will hold their cards close to their chest and not share.  But I have found that to be rare and only in the most insecure of people.

So, where is my confession?  I am getting to it.  Wait for it.

I am sure you know Grace Davis.  (Even Andrew Shue of Melrose Place and ClubMom knows Grace Davis!) She just celebrated her 51st birthday.  (Happy Birthday, Grace.) One of the gifts she received was from NYC: She found out she was chosen as one of the 30,000 other runners that are able going to run in the New York City Marathon.  Marathon.  That is more miles that I can comprehend RUNNING.  But not Grace.  Grace even has an amazing blog, Marathon Mom, that talks all about her running-goodness.  Complete with schedules and running logs and running goodness that makes my eyes roll back in my head as I convulse in fear.  And she does it with humor and style!

I know.  Right now you are thinking to yourself, “Surely, there is absolutely no connection between Jenn and anyone who writes about running.” Well, you would be wrong.

I have a confession to make.  I have decided to start running.  And by that, of course, I do not mean from the law, having the runs or running from someone chasing me who must be intent on wanting to kill me which is the only reason I would ever decide to voluntarily run.  I am seriously talking about training, a schedule and actual r-u-n-n-i-n-g.  Hold me.  I am scared.

There are just so many amazing women I know doing so many amazing things right now and I have the honor of knowing them and sharing in these things with them.  Inspirational competition.  It’s karma, baby.  Give to the world the best you have and the best will come back to you.  These women–women like Grace– are amazing women.  Know what else I am going to do?  I am going to start sharing these women and their amazingness with you here.  I love the whole Pay It Forward, Pass It On, Karma thing that the Internet and blogging provide so easily.  Sooo…..

Inspire me, too.  What are you doing?  Tell me more about it!  (And yes, everyone is doing something inspirational.  So don’t say nothing!)

National Body Challenge

Question for those of you who are doing the National Body Challenge.

If you know there are going to be a lot of people signed up in your city, are you getting there are the ass-crack of dawn or are you just going to go and see what there is to this whenever you get there?

Just wondering. 6,000+ and counting in the Dallas area. YUK!

Saturday chaos

Saturday chaos

It’s Saturday morning. (Okay, afternoon, so sue me. I am still moving slowly and think it is morning.) One soccer game was cancelled due to the flooded fields. The 2:00pm game is still a go. We have had sprinkles on and off all day, but apparently, if your game is after 1:00pm, then the field will miraculously dry up by then. Whatever. Kidlet Sr is ready to play, so I am there, rain or shine.

His big party is upon us tonight. Oh, give me strength! I am going to need it. He’s had 2 friends over today and they have been insanely hyper. It’s official. I have lost my mind to agree to this!

So it brings up the question…where is the line between letting the kids have fun and letting them get away with too much? Where is the line drawn between having fun and having too much fun when you are 10 yrs old? I am not sure. I can tell you one thing. Yelling, running, screaming and “fighting” are over the line in this house.

And to you…excuse me, but why didn’t you smack me when you first read that I was going to let him have 7 friends spend the night? Huh? Don’t you know what tough love is all about. A little smack to my head to get me to start thinking right about what having that many boys in my house would do to my sanity, peace and for that matter…the condition of my house. If 2 boys can do this….

…Oh I just can’t bear to think what 7 are going to do!
